How can parents help their autistic children?

Parents can make use of consistent sensory interventions to help their autistic children.  Using different sensory toys for autistic children is beneficial. This can help them create neural pathways, improve sensory processing systems and stimulate the brain. Also this can improve social skills and coordination skills as well as motor skills.


Why are sensory toys useful? 

Sensory toys can help autistic children regulate their sensory system and
stimulate a child’s preferred sense which is enjoyable to him/ her.  Playing sensory toys can help autistic children calm down, relax in stressful environment.  After lowering levels of anxiety, other skills may also be improved.

There are a lot of toys for autistic children. They are of many different shapes and sizes. For example, hand toys, cubes, rings, chew toys and spinners.

    Yes these are all good devices for distracting not just for autistic children but others who want to be stress free. I remember seeing these autistic kids in our public school over 30 yrs ago it was challenging because we did not know how to approach them but after awhile they were just really active people who needed a little guidance. Thanks for the share it was informative and enlightening.
